• Fatiwanolo Zega: Isu Penutupan TPL Buat Pekerja/Buruh Gelisah

“Kita mendengar, ketika perusahaan-perusahaan besar mulai melakukan pemangkasan jumlah karyawan akibat terkena dampak Covid-19.

‘Close TPL’ Movement Don’t Bring Disaster | OBROLANBISNIS.com — The issue of the ‘Close TPL’ movement should not bring disaster to people who are currently facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on economic difficulties which is currently one of the problems that must be considered before making any movement or building issues that have an impact on the wider community.

This was stated by Turedo Sitindaon in response to the incessant movement that urged the closure of PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL), Tbk, in the dialogue ‘Measuring the Profits and Loss of the Establishment of TPL in Batak Land’ held by Exponent Cipayung Plus, Friday, June 25, 2021, in Medan.

This dialogue was attended by student activists and presented several speakers including the Director of PT TPL Jandres Silalahi.

According to the former Korda GMNI of North Sumatra, stating that the attitude to urge the closure of the TPL is part of the freedom of expression regulated in the constitution.

However, these statements and actions must also be accompanied by a proportional perspective on the existence of the pulp company during the current pandemic.

“We hear that when big companies start cutting the number of employees due to the impact of Covid-19. However, from what was conveyed by the TPL, until now there has been no layoff of employees, CSR continues. This means that there are also things that we must appreciate from them, so we must look at it proportionally, especially considering this pandemic period,” he said.

Previously, the Board of Directors of TPL, Jandres Silalahi revealed, during the 30 years of operation the TPL has always worked in accordance with the new paradigm they have built, namely building shared prosperity.

In addition to ensuring that the concession lands that are managed by the company using a ‘planting-harvest’ system for Eucalyptus, do not penetrate into other land areas, TPL also consistently distributes CSR funds to the community.

Their performance is monitored by an independent team as stated in deed 54 and deed 05 which states that the implementation of the new TPL paradigm is supervised by an independent team formed and approved by the Governor of North Sumatra.

“This means that the implementation of the new TPL paradigm is closely monitored by the team. Evaluation of this supervision will be carried out by the Governor through the Environmental Service. So there is no obligation from the company that we can violate to the community,” said Jandres Silalahi. ***
