“Memang penyebabnya pandemi Covid-19.

Dia mengatakan, tahun 2020 pendapatan Indonesia tercatat minus 2,07%.

Concerned!!! RI Drops Caste in the Eyes of the World… | OBROLANBISNIS.com — Concerned. That sentence deserves to be pinned for Indonesia. Now, the country of thousands of islands is included in the lower middle income country, aka a country with lower middle income. The study was released by the World Bank.

This information was announced as of July 1 on the official website of the World Bank. In the report, the latest World Bank assessment stated that Indonesia’s GNI per capita in 2020 fell to US$ 3,870. In fact, last year it was at the level of US$ 4,050 and made Indonesia upgrade to an upper middle income country, aka an upper middle income country.

“Indonesia, Mauritius, Romania and Samoa were very close to the classification threshold in 2019 and all experienced a decline in the Atlas GNI per capita related to Covid-19, resulting in a lower classification in 2020,” the World Bank said in its announcement, as quoted, Friday, July 8, 2021.

The World Bank itself this year changed the GNI classification to determine the ranking of each country. The classification changes because in each country, factors such as economic growth, inflation, exchange rates, and population growth affect the GNI per capita.

In 2019, the classification of GNI per capita for Low Income countries is at the level of US$ 1,035, Lower Middle Income at the level of US$ 1,035-US$ 4,045, Upper Middle Income at the level of US$ 4,046 – US$ 12,535, and High Income at the level of more than US$ 12,535.

The year 2020 changed, for Low Income at the level of US$ 1,046, Lower Middle Income at the level of US$ 1,046-US$ 4,095, Upper Middle Income at the level of US$ 4,095 – US$ 12,695, and High Income at the level of more than US$ 12,695.

In response to this, the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) revealed that Indonesia was downgraded to a lower middle-income country due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is said to have had a significant impact on economic growth. In addition, the exchange rate factor also pushed Indonesia down a class to become a lower middle income country.

“Indeed, the cause is the Covid-19 pandemic. If there is no pandemic, our 2020 growth will be positive, the exchange rate will also be more stable, so that per capita income in USD will also increase (if there is no pandemic),” said Edy Priyono, Main Expert at Deputy III KSP.

He said that in 2020 Indonesia’s income was recorded at minus 2.07%. This shows that national income is lower than the previous year.

He said, automatically per capita income also fell. Then, the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar also decreased by 2.66% on average compared to 2019. “Those two things made the World Bank calculate that Indonesia’s 2020 per capita income in USD fell to US$ 3,870,” said Edy.

Edy Priyono said the condition was not encouraging. However, they had guessed beforehand. “It’s not exciting, but it’s not surprising. We expected it beforehand,” said Edy. ***
