Governor Edy: It turns out that there are a lot of Bonsai Tree Lovers in Medan | OBROLANBISNIS.com — North Sumatra (North Sumatra) Governor Edy Rahmayadi inspects the National Bonsai Exhibition organized by the Indonesian Bonsai Enthusiasts Association (PPBI) Medan, which took place in the parking area next to Plaza Medan Fair, Jalan Iskandar Muda Baru Medan, Sunday, 27 February 2022.
The exhibition was attended by at least 574 bonsai trees of various types. Among them are the types of Princess Earrings, Sancang, Mustam, Kimeng Arabica, Hokiantea, Serut, Waru, Fir and Banyan.
Governor Edy Rahmayadi welcomed and appreciated this activity and hoped that similar exhibitions could be held in a sustainable manner.
To motivate fans and cultivators of ‘dwarf’ plants to continue to be motivated in their work. Because apart from a hobby, bonsai can also be an added value to the economy.
“Medan, it turns out that there are many communities of bonsai tree lovers and this deserves to be developed because bonsai is a work of art of high value,” said Edy Rahmayadi, while walking around to see the beauty of the bonsai trees on display.
In the bonsai exhibition and contest, the bonsai belonging to Akuang (60) from Medan City of the type Earring Putri, who is 16 years old, won first place with a score of 321.67.
Meanwhile, Head of PPBI Center Erwin said, as many as 15 PPBI branches from various regions were present to take part in this contest and exhibition. Among them, Jambi, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Aceh with a total of 574 bonsai trees.
According to Erwin, Indonesia has a tropical climate and has thousands of ornamental plants which are supporting factors for the development of bonsai plants.
“Indonesia is located in the tropics, this is very supportive for the development of various bonsai plants compared to other countries,” he explained.
Erwin also hopes that this exhibition can ignite the spirit of bonsai lovers in the provinces and districts/cities.
“We will revive this bonsai after the Covid-19 pandemic because of the many new hobbyists of bonsai trees who are more militant,” he hoped.
The head of the Medan Bonsai Contest Committee, Ermin Leung, hopes that this bonsai contest will not only serve as a gathering place for fans.
Also to revive the spirit of bonsai lovers in Indonesia, especially the city of Medan to produce even better bonsai.
“This bonsai lover had a vacuum, for that this year we raised the theme ‘Medan Bonsai Reborn’, so that the spirit of this bonsai lover will rise again, because art has no limits,” he hoped.
The chairman of the jury for the Maya Rusmayadi contest from Bandung said that there were four categories of assessment, namely appearance, basic form, compatibility and maturity.
The maturity factor in bonsai is not always identical with old trees, even though old trees can lose to young trees.
“Because a tree that has just been taken from nature, it is clear that the elements of old age, both roots and branches have been formed, but the crown and twigs have not yet been formed, this can be said to be selling bonsai but still in the training period,” he explained.
Also present were the Head of the North Sumatran Plantation Service, Lies Handayani Siregar, the Acting Head of the North Sumatran Food Crops and Horticulture Service, Bahruddin Siregar, as well as the bonsai-loving community of North Sumatra and other provinces. ***
