Bakir Pasaman menceritakan, awalnya pandemi memang sempat membuat kinerja perusahaan terkontraksi.

“Harga pupuk sekarang di atas US$ 1.000 per ton.
Fertilizer Indonesia Skyrocketed in Bakir Pasaman’s Hands | OBROLANBISNIS.com — PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) skyrocketed during the pandemic. The proof is that the state-owned company managed to record a positive record throughout 2020-2021.
This success is part of the cold hands of Bakir Pasaman, the President Director. Under the command of Bakir, PT Pupuk Indonesia succeeded in achieving the target in 2021.
This achievement is certainly thanks to the innovations and programs carried out in the last year. As a result, the pandemic did not have a significant impact on the industrial work of PT Pupuk Indonesia.
Bakir Pasaman said that initially the pandemic had made the company’s performance contract. But not for long.
“The fertilizer industry was only depressed at the beginning of the pandemic. This was due to public fear and the emergence of lockdown policies in several countries,” Bakir Pasaman said.
This is because the agricultural and plantation sectors that supply food must continue to roll.
In fact, for Bakir, this condition can actually allow the company to open opportunities for fertilizer producers to continue to grow.
That is the industrial climate that happened to PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) during the pandemic.
“But this condition did not last long, even during the pandemic, the agricultural sector thrived and had a positive impact on the fertilizer industry,” Bakir Pasaman explained.
Furthermore, Bakir Pasaman explained that other industries affected by the pandemic also affected the fertilizer industry.
Not to mention, there is a transportation and logistics crisis due to the closure of several areas which have an impact on the export market.
As a result, the volume of exports in the beginning fell slightly and the costs also rose. “That’s what interferes with our marketing in the fertilizer industry. Transportation costs are still quite high and this condition lasts quite a long time,” Bakir continued.
In order to get out of this situation, Bakir Pasaman has also prepared more adaptive steps to overcome the export problem.
Indeed, said Bakir, the problem is not easy, especially since the ongoing pandemic situation coupled with the oil and gas crisis in Europe has caused gas and fertilizer prices to soar.
This condition caused many factories to die and made Pupuk Indonesia to be chased for export.
Even so, Bakir Pasaman said that Pupuk Indonesia’s business orientation was not to the export market.
According to Bakir, currently many countries, such as Korea, are looking for fertilizers because they do not have fertilizer sources.
“Many people from South Korea contact me to buy fertilizer. However, we cannot export there,” said Bakir Pasaman.
On the other hand, fertilizer-producing countries are also closing exports, as did China to Vietnam and Russia.
“The price of fertilizer is now above US$ 1,000 per ton. This is because October to March is the planting season in Indonesia,” said Bakir Pasaman.
“So, it’s as if we ignore business opportunities, it’s not like that. As a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), we must prioritize domestic food security,” Bakir concluded. ***
