Barita 'Puji' Erick Thoir Ungkap Praktik Dugaan Korupsi Perusahaan Plat Merah

Barita ‘Praises’ Erick Thoir Reveals Alleged Corruption Practices of Red Plate Companies | OBROLANBISNIS.com — The Chairperson of the Indonesian Prosecutor’s Commission DR Barita Simanjuntak SH MH CfrA expressed his appreciation to the Minister of SOEs Erick Thoir who reported allegations of corrupt practices in several state-owned companies.

“The handling of cases of alleged corruption at the Attorney General’s Office recently is partly based on the official report of the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thoir, who is committed to state-owned companies that must be clean from corrupt practices. I appreciate his commitment,” said Head of the Indonesian Prosecutor’s Commission Barita Simanjuntak in a statement, Wednesday, June 22. 2022.

The Prosecutor’s Commission praised the synergistic cooperation between the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and the Attorney General’s Office (Kejakgung) in the eradication of corrupt practices in state-owned business units.

Barita Simanjuntak said that the collaboration between Erick Thohir and ST Burhanuddin should be followed by leaders in other ministries, in an effort to clean up practices that harm state finances.

“What the SOE Minister Erick Thohir and the Attorney General’s Office have done, should be, let’s say, what is called a role model in eradicating and taking action against corruption cases, and mega-scandal cases that harm businesses and cause state losses,” he said. Barita.

According to Barita, SOE Minister Erick Thohir looks serious in his efforts to clean his ministry and government-owned business units from corrupt practices. It also looks serious in resolving cases of corruption that have been stalled, and unfinished from the past, which have plagued a number of state-owned enterprises.

Institutionally, said Barita, Erick Thohir as a leader in a vital ministry, seems to understand the context of law enforcement in government institutions, which places the prosecutor’s office as the main authority in eradicating, and taking action against corruption that occurs in the government.

Therefore, added Barita, SOE Minister Erick Thohir often provides reports and audit results of state losses related to ministries and SOE business units to the Attorney General’s Office for follow-up through law enforcement.

“Based on the law, what the SOE Minister has done is right to make the Attorney General’s Office the only prosecution agency that carries out the government’s mission in law enforcement,” said Barita.

The Prosecutor’s Commission hopes that the model of cooperation between the Ministry of SOEs and the Attorney General’s Office can be carried out similarly in other institutions and ministries.

“I think that’s what the public expects. There is openness from ministry leaders, to law enforcement, to be followed up legally,” said Barita.

According to Barita, this collaboration has had a major impact on the current reputation of the Attorney General’s Office.

Barita assessed that one of the barometers of increasing public trust in the Attorney General’s Office so far is related to the intensity and seriousness of the investigative team in handling corruption cases.

In this case, said Barita, the team at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), deserves to be appreciated.

Barita gave an example, handling giant corruption cases such as Asuransi Jiwasraya, ASABRI, which cost the state finances Rp. 16.8 and 22.78 trillion, was able to boost the prosecutor’s positive reputation.

“And we see, not only in the matter of the magnitude of state losses, and the execution of the maximum sentence, but we see, there are very serious efforts from the prosecutor’s office, and BUMN to restore state losses from these cases,” said Barita.

Other cases, which are currently still under investigation, Barita said, stem from the AGO’s seriousness in responding to reports of alleged corruption and state losses by the Ministry of SOEs.

For example, in the alleged corruption case of PT Garuda Indonesia, the alleged corruption at PT Krakatau Steel, the alleged corruption at Pelindo II, also recently, the reports of alleged corruption that occurred at PT Waskita Beton Precast and PT Adhi Persada.

Barita said that by looking at the budget for the corruption eradication team at the Attorney General’s Office, which is much lower than other corruption eradication institutions, the work of the Jampidsus team currently deserves appreciation.

“What the public wants, in terms of eradicating corruption, has been carried out by the Attorney General’s Office. And that leads to very positive work results,” said Barita.

However, Barita said, the Prosecutor’s Commission is still assessing that the results of the corruption eradication work can be maximized to a commensurate recovery of state losses. ***
