“Moon Cake Festival merupakan acara tahunan yang dilakukan sejak jaman dulu (Dinasti Ming), sebagai rasa syukur atas panen pertani,” sebut Juswan Joe, Ketua Perkumpulan Teochew Bersatu Sumut.
Moon Cake Festival ini dilaksanakan pada saat musim gugur, yang ditandai dengan datangnya bulan purnama, dalam menyambut musim tersebut.
Tetapi di sisi lain, menurut catatan sejarah, kue bulan muncul pada jaman Dinasti Ming, yang dikaitkan dengan kisah pemberontakan heroik Zhu Yuanzhang. Ia memimpin para petani Han melawan pemerintah Mongol sekitar tahun 1360-an.

“Semua anggota kita datang hari ini, kegiatan ini menjadi tempat bersirahturami,” ujarnya.
Kue bulan sebagai simbol agar hidup damai, kompak dan kemudian manis, karena kue bulan yang cenderung memiliki rasa manis.

“Untuk perkumpulan Teochew, semoga ini bisa memperkuat tali persaudaraan, lebih kompak lagi,” katanya.
Dari kegiatan ini juga diharapkan bisa mengenalkan tradisi ke generasi muda, dengan harapan mereka bisa ikut menjadi bagian untuk melestarikan budaya.
“Kita harap anak muda bisa mengerti apa yang dimaksud dengan kebudayaan itu. Agar Kebudayaan yang baik tidak hilang,” tukasnya.
Sementara itu,Assoc Prof Dr Agus Susanto selaku Ketua Perkumpulan Teochew Bersatu Medan menambahkan, pada Moon Cake Festival ini, juga diselenggarakan Mandarin/English/Indonesian Singing Competition Teochew Cup 2024.
Kegiatan tersebut sebagai upaya mengajak generasi muda untuk terlibat aktif dalam melestarikan budaya dan menjalin persaudaraan.

“Hari ini kita bergembira, ke depan kita berharap semakin luas lagi pergerakan dari Teochew di berbagai daerah,” ungkapnya.
Sebanyak 40 peserta antusias mengikuti perlombaan tersebut. Hal tersebut menjadi kebanggaan tersendiri, karena antusiasnya lebih tinggi dari yang di harapkan.
“Ini juga sebagai awal menyambut Teochew Festival Season 6 yang akan segera dilaksanakan pada bulan November mendatang yang akan diisi berbagai perlombaan, seperti pidato, dancing, debate, kaligrafi, mewarnai, e-Sports Mobile Legend, drum, fashion show, scrabble dan sebagainya,” jelasnya.
Menjadi kebanggan pula dikatakan Assoc Prof Dr Agus, bahwa anak didik dari Teochew berhasil menorehkan prestasi untuk kategori Barongsai di perhelatan olahraga terbesar di Indonesia, yakni PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024.
“Kami cukup bangga ya, barongsai hari ini hasil dari anak-anak Teochew yang juga berhasil meraih prestasi di PON kemarin. Hal ini kita tunjukkan sebagai bentuk meneruskan semangat kepada generasi muda bangsa,” pungkasnya.

Meanwhile, Assoc Prof Dr Agus Susanto as the Chairperson of the Medan United Teochew Association added that at this Moon Cake Festival, the Mandarin/English/Indonesian Singing Competition Teochew Cup 2024 was also held.
This activity is an effort to invite the younger generation to be actively involved in preserving culture and establishing brotherhood.
“Today we are happy, in the future we hope that the Teochew movement in various regions will be even wider,” he said.

“We are quite proud, today’s barongsai is the result of Teochew children who also succeeded in achieving achievements at the PON yesterday. We show this as a form of continuing the spirit to the young generation of the nation,” he concluded.
