Informasi terbaru menyebutkan dalam daftar Kantor Paten dan Merek Dagang AS atau United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) terdapat paten berjudul ‘Camera Attachment and Image Data Processing for Temperature Measurement, kamera tempelan dan pemrosesan data citra untuk pengukuran suhu.
Meski pun Apple belum mengumumkan secara resmi terkait untuk apa paten itu, tapi dari penjelasan serta gambar yang ada di paten USPTO sudah cukup menjelaskan bahwa paten kamera temperatur ini ditujukkan untuk smartphone iPhone masa depan.
Dalam paten tersebut, dijelaskan Apple menggunakan kamera yang bisa menaksir suhu tubuh berdasarkan citra yang dilihat. Kamera tersebut merupakan perangkat terpisah, begitu di tempelkan ke iPhone, ponsel akan menjadi alat pengukur suhu. Kamera tambahan ini akan bersifat pasif, atau tidak membutuhkan daya.
Artinya, kamera pengukur suhu ini akan dilengkapi dengan kerangka agar bisa dipasangkan dengan kamera iPhone dan teknologi pengukuran suhu temperature reactive material (TRM).
“Kerangka dikonfigurasi untuk menempatkan TRM di dalam jangkauan penglihatan kamera agar citra yang ditangkap kamera termasuk sebagian dari TRM,” demikian penjelasan di paten tersebut, Rabu, 14 Juli 2021.
Cara kerja dari kamera ini adalah mendeteksi temperatur dari suatu objek ketika kamera ini diarahkan ke objek tersebut dan akan muncul dalam bentuk angka. Selain angka temperatur, kamera ini juga akan mendeskripsikan temperatur suatu objek lewat sebuah warna.

Ketika warnanya semakin merah, hal tersebut mendakan bahwa objek memiliki temperatur yang tinggi. lebih lanjut, kamera ini nantinya tidak akan tersemat pada smartphone iPhone masa depan.
